I love painting in oils. Watercolours are great too, they need more careful control. Acrylics I'm still learning and enjoying the different tactics and styles, Acrylics works similar to oils when used thick and watercolour when thin, so you have the best of both mediums.

Fighting Ele's Photo

Choosing a subject to paint is normally hard,  I am based in South Wales of the United kingdom so I searched the internet for my subjects. I came across this image it blow me away, the colours are everywhere reds, yellows, blues greens all in greys tones but more colour than grey.

I decide to paint the first coat of colours in oils using strong grey colours, I'm hoping to capture the reds yellows blues and greens and keep that look of the impact.

Look at the effect of colours already, even the dark areas show colour. this painting is all about the colours within the image. Even the dust will show colour.

I indicate some dust at the bottom of the painting. then quickly put in the sky with a hint of dust colour. I leave the oils to dry for a day or two. Once completely dry, I dry brush a mix of colours over the first Ele to your left ( this mean brushing very little of the colours on and then wiping my brush dry to blend the colours to gather). Then I add the detail over this colour while still wet, remember its a kind of dry wet so the detail flows easy.

I do the same work procedure over the second Ele, its looking good. I'll leave the painting to dry over the next few days.

All that's needed to finish the painting is a tough of highlights here and there with some dark tones added then the dust clouds and now sign and date. We have a finished colourful painting of two young bull Elephants at impact point of a charge fight.
