I love painting in oils. Watercolours are great too, they need more careful control. Acrylics I'm still learning and enjoying the different tactics and styles, Acrylics works similar to oils when used thick and watercolour when thin, so you have the best of both mediums.

This photo shows a angry lion, I hope to capture this anger and those lovely colour in his main.

I'm happy with this sketch, the chin is slightly to long, which I will adjust later. I'm using acrylic paints here.

Angry Lion

Here I start putting in some colour and reduce the chin. I'm very happy with the image but need to get that anger look in his face. Still using acrylics.

Angry Lion

I start using the oils now to do the fur detail on the main and add some colour to the face, also I put in the green backdrop. Still not looking angry.

Angry Lion

Now I glaze the hairy main and add the fine fur detail using a small liner brush. I work around the mouth area adding his two front upper teeth. Will leave this painting hang on the wall for a while to get some fresh ideas on the anger detail for the face.

Angry Lion

After a few days hanging on the wall of my studio I finally decided to finish the detail on the face to achieve that anger look. Creases in the face and the eye shape helps bring out that anger.
